Sustainability

At Aviodrome, we do not only look upwards, but also forwards. As proud holders of the Green Key Gold label, we take responsibility for our impact on people and the environment. Sustainability is woven into everything we do, from energy and food to cooperation and community involvement.

Smart with energy

We are working step by step to make the museum more energy efficient. From 2024, we will replace all lighting with LED, and our largest rooms and the central hall will be heated and cooled with heat and cold storage. In 2025, we will replace the old central heating boilers with economical high-efficiency boilers, and lights in warehouses and toilets will only be switched on when necessary.

Fair and tasty food

We also make conscious choices in our catering. We serve Fairtrade coffee and Rainforest Alliance tea, meat with at least one Beter Leven star (including croquettes and meat rolls), and our tomato soup is organic. About half of what we offer is vegetarian, including business lunches. This is how we ensure that sustainability and taste go hand in hand.

Clean and careful

We use eco-labelled cleaning agents and comply with Green Key standards. Waste is separated, both for visitors and behind the scenes. We limit transport movements by opting for one-stop deliveries and pay attention to sustainability when choosing new suppliers. We also collect used cartridges via Eeko.nl, which supports good causes with the proceeds.

Committed to people

For us, sustainability is also about people. We provide free tickets to Make-A-Wish and Ambulance Wish so that special dreams can come true. Together with JINC, we help young people from socio-economically vulnerable neighbourhoods on their way to a fair chance on the labour market. And through DemenTalent, we offer people with memory problems a place to stay active as volunteers.

Our more than 200 volunteers are invaluable to Aviodrome. With our own volunteer coordinator and a solid volunteer policy, we make sure everyone feels welcome, useful and involved with us.
