Sustainability
At Aviodrome, we don’t just look up—we also look ahead. We are aware of the impact our business activities have on the environment and society, and we aim to act in a way that ensures the natural environment remains preserved and accessible for future generations. We do this by increasingly integrating sustainability into our business processes, services, and products. To achieve this, we make conscious choices and seek a balance between people, the planet, and results. As a museum, sustainability is already woven into everything we do, from energy and food to collaboration and social engagement. But we are constantly looking for feasible steps to shape this social responsibility within our organization.
Smart Energy Use
We are working step by step toward a more energy-efficient museum. Starting in 2024, we will gradually replace all lighting with LED, and our largest galleries and the central hall will be heated and cooled using thermal energy storage. By 2025, the old boilers will be replaced with energy-efficient high-efficiency boilers, and all lights in storage areas and restrooms will turn on only when necessary.
Fair and delicious food
We also make conscious choices in our food service. We serve Fairtrade coffee and Rainforest Alliance tea, offer meat with at least one Beter Leven star (including our croquettes and frikandellen), and whenever possible, we source our fruits and vegetables organically. The fish we serve comes from responsible sources, which is why our fish selection carries the Licensed by Good Fish label. About half of our menu is vegetarian, including our business lunches. This is how we ensure that sustainability and taste go hand in hand.
Plastic packaging
In our restaurant, we do not use plastic packaging and are exploring ways to minimize the use of single-use materials as much as possible. Last year, we switched to serving soft drinks in reusable glass bottles, and we serve all beverages in glassware.
Clean and Careful
We use cleaning products with an eco-label and more than meet the Green Key standards. Waste is sorted, both for visitors and behind the scenes. We limit transport movements by opting for one-stop deliveries and prioritize sustainability when selecting new suppliers. We also collect used cartridges through Eeko.nl, which uses the proceeds to support charities.
Clear policy
We pursue an active and transparent CSR policy, continuously monitoring developments in our field and sharing knowledge with employees and future professionals. We inform guests, employees, and suppliers about our sustainable and socially responsible practices, establish clear quality agreements with relevant parties, and monitor them carefully. In doing so, we consider not only the financial impact of our products and services but also their social and environmental effects, striving to minimize any negative impact as much as possible.
Committed to People
For us, sustainability is also about people. We provide free tickets to Make-A-Wish and Ambulance Wens, so that special dreams can also come true. Together with JINC, we help young people from socioeconomically vulnerable neighborhoods on their way to a fair chance in the labor market. And through DemenTalent, we offer people with memory problems a place to stay active as volunteers.
Our more than 200 volunteers are invaluable to Aviodrome. With our own volunteer coordinator and a robust volunteer policy, we ensure that everyone feels welcome, useful, and engaged with us.
Green Key Certificate
As a proud holder of the Green Key Gold certification, we are committed every day to sustainable and socially responsible business practices, with a focus on quality, the environment, and social responsibility.
