Aviodrome transformed into home of SintAirways next two weekends
Aviodrome Aviation Museum Aviodrome will be home to SintAirways, the airline of St. Nicholas, distributing presents across the Netherlands December 5, during the last two weekends of November. Children can help send gifts via Sint's special airmail. Aviodrome is organizing the Sinterklaas days together with students from two leisure courses at the ROC of Flevoland, who can complete their first project of the year with this activity.
During SintAIRklaas, visitors can perform various activities in the old Schiphol building on November 21, 22, 28 and 29. Examples include sorting the packages by color in the warehouse, scanning the packages under the guidance of Douanepiet and plotting the route for December 5 with the Pietloten. There are also some "side steps," such as Sinterklaas' office and Ozosnel's stable.
InstructiveSt. Nicholas really enjoys giving children an inside look at how St. Airways processes and distributes all the presents it buys on December 5. Children will learn from the Pieten about the different jobs at the airport and what they entail. "It will be a fun, educational activity, obviously observing all guidelines," says Lars Janssen, Coordinator of Events and Exhibitions at Aviodrome.
"For example, children learn what customs does by scanning packages and what pilots do by plotting routes together with the Pietloten." Sinterklaas himself will not be present during SintAIRklaas: "Sinterklaas has indicated he will be working from home as much as possible this year, which means he cannot be at Aviodrome," Janssen concludes.
Leisure education cooperationFirst- and third-year students from Leisure & Entertainment and Leisure & Hospitality at Flevoland ROC are collaborating on SintAIRklaas. For the students, it is their first project of the year for clients, as many projects did not go ahead due to the corona virus.
"It is very important to carry out projects in practice. We are therefore very happy that we can get to work during SintAIRklaas to support the Pieten and are looking forward to it," said Heleen Caron, project leader and teacher at ROC van Flevoland.
SintAIRklaas is included in a regular ticket to Aviodrome Aviation Museum for Nov. 21, 22, 28 and 29. Museumkaart or BankGiro Lottery VIP-KAART holders have free admission. However, due to the current situation surrounding the corona virus, it is mandatory to always reserve your admission to the museum online in advance.
