Santa Claus lands at Aviodrome

This year's Christmas vacation at Aviation-themed theme park Aviodrome includes an exhibition of holiday experiences in other cultures. There is also attention to the very special Christmas mail flight of De Pelikaan in 1933. There will also be a special Aviodrome Kidsday on January 3.

In addition to these activities, there are special children's tours. On Boxing Day it will even be Santa Claus in person, telling and showing all kinds of things. Crafts are also available, and the creators of the most beautiful creations have a chance to win a flight for three. Of course, you can also craft a beautiful plane at home. Bring your creation along on your visit for a chance to win this wonderful prize! Participants in the letter hunt also have a chance to win a flight for three! So crafting and scavenger hunts give you two chances!

Christmas Post

During an exhibition near the foreign-made aircraft, Aviodrome pays attention to the customs surrounding the holidays in these cultures. In addition, the Aviation Theme Park in Lelystad highlights the story of the 1933 Christmas flight. This flight was very special because the PH-AIP Pelican managed to make the journey from Amsterdam to Batavia (Dutch East Indies) and back in record time.

The accelerated Christmas flight was scheduled to depart on Dec. 18 with the Fokker aircraft The Herring Gull, but that aircraft had serious engine problems. As a result, the older and slower Pelican was used to make the flight. After a journey of four days, four hours and 40 minutes, the aircraft received a grand welcome in Batavia, Dutch East Indies. On the evening of Dec. 26, four days after its arrival, the "Pelican" departed for Holland again. The return trip, despite the bad weather, was flown even faster than the outward journey: in just over three days. About 15,000 - anxiously waiting - people had come to Schiphol Airport to welcome the plane and its crew. The Christmas mail from India was thus still delivered to many families throughout the Netherlands on New Year's Eve.

Kidsday

The Christmas holiday activities will conclude on Sunday, January 3, with a special Aviodrome Kidsday. Children will then have the unique opportunity to actually send a message in the radio room via a radio link and connect with other children.

Pilot's License

In addition, visitors always have a great time at Aviodrome with the many old and new airplanes, in the flight simulators, the radio room and so on. Children can have extra fun on the many playground equipment (including a living baggage carousel). By successfully completing various tests, they can even get their Aviodrome Pilot's License. Those skills are tested during a flight test, signal test, knowledge test, eye test and also a steering test in pedal planes during the children's pilot training.
