Rescuing and extinguishing during 'Fly-in: Rescue Heroes'
Following on from last year's successful event, Aviodrome is again organizing a two-day fly-in this year with the theme "Rescue and extinction. Complete with special fire-fighting and rescue vehicles and planes from the police, fire department and ambulance services, Aviodrome Aviation Theme Park will feature various heroes from the past and present on August 20 and 21. Fireman Sam is also coming along!
Performances and demonstrations
Visitors can admire original American police vehicles and view a large fire truck from the Fire Department on Aug. 20 and 21. There are exciting demonstrations with tracking dogs and the Singing Hairstylists sing hits from the 1940s and 1950s while creating the most beautiful hairstyles, the Animal Ambulance cares for injured stuffed animals and the smallest visitors can have their picture taken with Fireman Sam.
You can also play the hero yourself by abseiling out of a real Boeing 747, conquering an assault course or searching for suspicious packages with a tracking dog.
Historical heroes
But there is more. Just like last year, several historic aircraft are coming to Aviodrome. For example, visitors can book a sightseeing flight on the Consolidated PBY-5A, or Catalina for short. This is a flying boat that can land both on water and on a runway (and does so at Aviodrome). The Catalina was used by various armed forces, including the Dutch Navy, from 1936 until well after World War II. Also on display is an authentic Spitfire, a British fighter. The aircraft went into production in 1938 and was used throughout World War II by the Allies, mainly by the RAF.
Opening hours
Aviodrome will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the 'Fly-in: Rescue Heroes' event on August 20 and 21. Admission is free for visitors in possession of a Museum Card.
