Open cockpit days with veterans at Aviodrome
There is always plenty to see and experience at Aviation Theme Park Aviodrome in Lelystad. However, the weekend of June 27 and 28 is very special. Because then it is time again for the Open Cockpit Days. In addition, the Saturday is also dedicated to the Dutch Veterans Day.
The cockpit is normally off limits to aircraft passengers. During the Open Cockpit Days at Aviation Theme Park Aviodrome, however, it is possible to view various cockpits up close. Among others, the cockpits of the Boeing 747, Saab Viggen, MIG-21 and Fokker 100 will be open to the public. Visitors will have the opportunity to step into the shoes of a real pilot!
Horn on the steering wheel?
The Open Cockpit Days are the ideal opportunity to find out what all the buttons are for. And also questions like "where is the navigation system?" or "is there a horn on the steering wheel?" are quickly answered. Young and old alike are amazed time and again. For example, about the difference between a cockpit from 80 years ago and today's advanced cockpits. Of course, stewards are present to answer a wide variety of questions.
Dutch Veterans Day
Aviodrome is offering several activities as part of Dutch Veterans Day on June 27. The Netherlands then thanks the veterans who have been deployed in the service of peace, now and in the past. At 11:30 a.m., a special tour of the WWII exhibit will begin. From 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. there will be a presentation by Hans Nauta. He tells a fascinating story about the air war over North Holland in the years 1940-1945. The lecture is supported with a large amount of visual material including some film fragments of air raids on IJmuiden and Den Helder, among others, that have never before been shown on television or the Internet.
