Discover the story and the aircraft
The exhibition in the Schiphol 1928 building takes visitors back to the moment when the Netherlands was first connected to New York. Through unique historical footage, you’ll discover just how remarkable it was for a European airline to launch a regular scheduled service to the United States.
On May 21, 1946, the Douglas DC-4 PH-TAR “Rotterdam” departed for the first scheduled flight to New York. The flight was both a technical achievement and a new form of international connection.
On the Aviodrome grounds stands a Douglas DC-4 painted in the PH-TAR color scheme. This is the same type of aircraft used for that historic flight. Thanks to the efforts of volunteers, the interior has also been restored to its former glory, and you can take a look inside the plane.
