View platform
From the nostalgic control tower, the view of Lelystad Airport's runway is phenomenal. Like a true air traffic controller, you can see sport planes and helicopters coming and going here. And if you're lucky, even larger aircraft, as they come here more and more often for maintenance.
Safely piloting in
The control tower was once the emergency tower at Schiphol. When the big control tower failed, air traffic controllers could go to this tower, which was right between the runways. Basically as it is now at Aviation Museum Aviodrome. This way they could still safely pilot the aircraft in or send them on their way. The control tower now stands on the observation platform, right next to Lelystad Airport.
Spotting aircraft
In the control tower, you listen in directly with air traffic control and pilots at Lelystad Airport and learn more about what they are discussing with each other now. Sports and teaching aircraft fly in and out daily, but helicopters may also pass by. And because the stopping distance of the runway has been extended, even the biggest planes can now land. Up to even a Boeing 737. So bring your camera and take pictures of as many different planes as possible.
